Greg's Newsletter is DAMN. [No. 048]
Sit down.
I do marketing and communications for big brands and companies. So, in this newsletter, I get mad at companies and brands and talk about how marketing is bad. Life! It’s not black and white!
But first, if you only listen to one thing this week, it should be Kendrick Lamar’s new album, DAMN. It’s good. It’s so good.
If you listen to two things, then you should also listen to my running 2017 playlist, which, seriously, is so good.
Is Trump at Mar-a-Lago right now? Probably. But you can track him using handy website, alongside how much taxpayer money is funding his trips, and what actual good that money could be used for. Sample: the $25M spent on this so far could pay for school lunches of 61K kids this year!
Hey! United is trash, obviously. Here’s a Chrome extension that removes United Airlines from your flight search results. If you use Google Flights, Kayak, or Expedia, use this!
Not a week goes by that Uber isn’t exposed for another god awful business practice. This past week, was the company being called out for secretly tracking Lyft drivers who were driving for Uber, too… with a software program called “Hell.” Uber cares not one bit about privacy, ethics, or the law. It starts at the top, too.
We don’t pay attention. We spend attention (when it comes to advertising). And now we’re in an era of stolen attention, thanks to ads that steal your time for nothing in return.
Vanity Fair chronicles the chaotic, inept, divisive White House mess. Fun fact: Jared Kushner liked the title of a book he found on Amazon and then hired the author to be a economic adviser. Due diligence, y’all.
Finally, it’s NBA Playoff time. Sure would be nice to have the Pistons a part of it, but whatever. It’s such a fun time. Don’t have a horse in the race but, like, I just want to watch basketball. And dunk. I wish I could dunk.
See you next time!
